A 21st-Century Skalawag or Skallywag (2020) is a POSITIVE term used for

“SOMEONE who is willing to help ANYONE in need, regardless of their color or creed.”

When you see the Skalawag Smiley Crossbones think of this-

  1. • The circle represents a hug

  2. • The crossbones represents a kiss, and

  3. • The eye-patch reminds us that we are all imperfect, broken, people.

  4. • Let’s be imperfect/broken people who love and care for imperfect/broken people.

HISTORY - A Scalawag (or Scallywag) was a negative term used by former slave owners after the civil war towards white Southerners who supported and helped the former slaves during the reconstruction of their new life as free individuals.
